Wow, I couldn't have timed it better if I tried. On this final day I received a bunch of first-time contributions from some of my favorite bloggers. These are the bloggers that I read and learn a lot from. So I highly recommend perusing through all of today's submissions.
I'd like to take the time to thank everyone who contributed, promoted this thing, or even just stopped by to read. I'll single out the prolific Jake Cole as this Blogathon's MVP. With a whopping 21 submissions, Jake sure beat me in number of posts. He was having his own Ray blogathon over at Not Just Movies. I'd also like to make a special mention of our only international submission, the final one listed below. Dottor SINema has included an English translation at the bottom of the piece.
This was one of my favorite undertakings this year, and it's got me primed for my annual trip to the New York Film Festival. I've got a lot of press screenings lined up while I'm up there (please stop by to read this year's edition of my annual NYFF coverage), but one in particular should be of interest to Ray enthusiasts, the U.S. premiere of Susan Ray's digital restoration of Ray's final film, We Can't Go Home Again (1979).
Remember also, for those who want to catch up with some of Ray's work you may have missed, TCM is paying tribute to the the director in October, showing all but a handful of his movies every Tuesday night that month. Aside from the TV premiere of We Can't Go Home Again, they've programmed such rarities as A Woman's Secret, Born to Be Bad, Wind Across the Everglades and 55 Days at Peking. (I will almost certainly be writing up whatever Ray films I didn't get to at this time. Although I may push out one more this evening.)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out, Tony. I didn't really set out to write more than a few pieces, but I ended up being so overwhelmed that I decided to fill all my Ray gaps and then just went "Oh, to hell with it, might as well write about them." Obviously, the experience was a rewarding one. There are precious few of his movies I wouldn't watch again, and I don't feel cheated for time for having seen any of them. I was already a Ray fan, but now I can more than get behind all those seemingly hyperbolic claims about him.
ReplyDeleteAh, there I am. Was beginning to think you'd forgotten me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the special mention, Tony!! Enjoy NYFF, I'd love to be there, say hello to my fave town!!!
